Commander Riker is of course the first officer of the USS Enterprise on the Star Trek TNG series. For some reason, Riker performed a long standing oddity when sitting down on the show.

He would nearly always swing on leg over the chair to sit down, yet he would do it in a perfectly normal manner, like this is the way everyone does it, right?

WeirdHat made this compilation of Riker sitting while swinging a leg over the chair, and now the video has gone viral, amassing over half a million views in just a few days. The video has appeared on Kotaku, SlashFilm, and UpRoxx

Last weekend, Jennifer Black-Moir was at the uber-nerdy Calgary Comic Expo. Internet popular and Star Trek: The Next Generation famous Wil Wheaton was there and took part in a Q&A from fans.

Jennifer was lucky enough to ask Wil to explain to her newborn daughter, “Why it’s awesome to be a nerd?”

“Your mother asked me to tell you why it’s awesome to be a nerd,” Wil began. “And that’s an easy thing for me to do, because that’s who I am… Being a nerd meant that I liked things that were a little weird… that  took a lot of effort to appreciate and understand.”

Now, his kindhearted and nerdy speech has now gone viralviral, amassing over 300,000 views in just one week. The video is also featured on Salon, Buzzfeed, DailyOfTheDay, VideoSift, and USAToday.

As if the IRS wasn’t hated enough before, news has just broken out that the IRS has made an official apology for spending $60,000 on this ridiculous excuse for a Star Trek parody. That’s over $10 grand for each minute of video!

The officially commissioned video was made at an IRS studio in New Carrollton, Maryland, and was played during the opening of a training and leadership conference in 2010.

Obviously, viewers are outraged over the wasteful spending, not to mention how pathetic the parody came out for such a large budget.
