When The Matrix debuted back in 1999, the stunning visuals–commonly referred to as ‘bullet time‘ special effects–blew the world away. Their state of the art camera techniques have since been copied, parodied, and spoofed countless times by Hollywood

But for years, only the big studios with even bigger budgets could create such dazzling images. Now that technology is only accelerating at ever greater speeds, small time artists and producers can replicate the effects.

Just take Marc Donahue, who created stunning ‘bullet time’ visuals with his homemade array of GoPro cameras. The shutter speeds aren’t perfectly synced, but that only results in even more interesting visuals.

The project was covered more in depth on FStoppers. Now, the week old video stands with over 30,000 views, and is only picking up viral momentum.

This amazing video by Grant Thompson was posted back in December, but it has just experienced a viral surge in viewership over the weekend.

From a previous experiment, Grant got his hands on a giant older television with a perfect screen to create a dangerously powerful solar lens in his backyard.

This isn’t your average juvenile ‘ant frying with a magnifying lens’ project. His DIY lens can literally melt metal, and instantly cause wood to ignite into flames. At it’s focal point, the sunlight reaches around 2000ºF!

Now, the video is featured on popular sites, such as Devour, DailyOfTheDay, and BestOfYouTube

has gone viral with an adorably interesting video about his cat and some handy do-it-yourself work. Rufus fell ill and required ear drops he hated. After the drops were done, Billy decided to ‘make it up to him’ by building him an epic tower maze out of cardboard boxes.

Rufus loves boxes, and when it was complete, claimed his tower. The Rufus Tower.

The video of the Rufus Tower has gone viralviral, garnering over 200,000 hits since the weekend. It is featured on websites and blogs, like HuffPost, Reddit, LaughingSquidHeraldSun, and Jezebel

This video by Chinese do-it-yourselfers  went viral last week. The video shows the simple way to extract the egg yolk from the white.

Simply squeeze a plastic bottle and use the pressure to ‘suck up’ the yolk. The yellow will easily slide into the bottle.

The video amassed over two million views in just the past week, and is further covered on FoodBeastLaughingSquid, and HuffPost.

This video was published in February, but has only gone viral now and is featured on VideoSift and EbaumsWorld.

Dad spent more weekends than he could count to build a backyard roller coaster out of lumber, PVC, and concrete with a twelve foot drop for his baby girl.

And she loves it. Best dad ever.

So who’s a cooler dad? This guy or the father who souped-up his son’s Power Wheels? They’re probably brothers.
